Wesak is the most important day of the year for Buddhists everywhere. Why is it so significant? Because this day commemorates the three most momentous events in the life of Buddha Shakyamuni – the birth of Prince Siddhartha Gautama, his Enlightenment in becoming Buddha Shakyamuni and the occasion of his parinirvana. It’s so sacred that the merits from any virtuous deed performed on this day are multiplied 100,000 times.
Because we all need merits, and since you may not be able to come to the temple for Wesak, we’re bringing the temple to you!
Tune in for our #Wesak2021 celebrations, live-streamed to you from Kechara Forest Retreat. Chant along during the Special Wesak puja, virtually bathe the Buddha, and let us make light & incense offerings on your behalf. You can also request our resident pastors to pray for you and your loved ones. In other words, let us help you collect merits from the safety and comfort of your home.

PROGRAMME
We’ll also be conducting an Eight Precepts ceremony the night before Wesak. Lay Buddhists are encouraged to observe these precepts for a 24-hour period on Buddhist holidays for tremendous merit collection.
The 8 Precepts are to abstain from:
- Killing, whether directly or indirectly
- Stealing and taking what is not given
- Sexual activity
- Lying and deceptive speech
- Using intoxicants
- Eating after noon
- Dancing, singing, playing music, and wearing cosmetics, perfume, and jewellery
- Using luxurious beds and seats with pride
